The large-scale folding seen at The Whaleback was formed during the Allegheny Orogeny. Also, if you zoom in on the photo OP posted, you will see what look to me like concretions protruding from the face of the rock. This same phenomenon is seen at The Whaleback. My guess is that it's a whales back or Roche moutinee.
